The colonial zone of Santo Domingo is a must see for visitors who love architecture, culture, dance and music or anyone who wants a fascinating glimpse into the history of the new world.

ONLY 2 hours via a new modern highway from Punta Cana, or Samaná

The colonial zone has been remarkably well preserved since the days when Columbus arrived in 1492 to establish a foothold in the Americas.

There, you can wander along the cobblestones of “Calle Las Damas” the first road in the new world, past the Hodelpa Nicolas de Ovando Hotel, home of the first governor of New Spain, to the grand Plaza Mayor.

Visitors can sit in one of the many cafes and restaurants that line the square, enjoy a chilled Presidente beer and take part in an authentic local event as talented dancers perform merengue, bachata and other local dances in traditional dress.
