A favourite of well-heeled urbanites who flock here on weekends, the 10 kilometre (six-mile) long sparkling white sand beaches are scattered with hotels, dive shops, restaurants and bars as well as vacation homes, upscale residential communities and newly built condominiums.

The adjacent Guayacanes fishing village offers a perfect day trip filled with local culture, while Playa Caribe’s azure waves attract surfers. Golfers will enjoy Juan Dolio’s Guavaberry and Los Marlins courses, while hikers and history enthusiasts can head to the “Cueva de las Maravillas” (Cave of Wonders) to see the Taino rock art which dates back thousands of years.
