DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Canada’s favourite sun destination

More and more Canadians are visiting the Dominican Republic. In fact, recent statistics show a remarkable recovery and growth in the number of Canadian travelers to the Dominican Republic - so remarkable that the Dominican Republic was recently recognized by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) as first in the world for tourism recovery. Indeed, there were nearly 1,700 flights from Canada in the first ten months of 2022, with an increase from Ontario by as much as 97% over 2021.

The government of the Dominican Republic is actively working to support local partners in offering Canadians the best vacation ever. In a clear acknowledged of the importance of the Canadian market to the Dominican Republic, Minister of Tourism David Collado made his third visit to Canada in just eight months, meeting this week in Toronto and Montreal with tour operators, airlines, agents, and partners. He took the opportunity to share some good news about the love affair between the Dominican Republic and Canadians. Canadians are returning to the Dominican Republic in large numbers, satisfaction ratings are very high, and bookings in Punta Cana are soaring, even exceeding 2019 levels. Canadians' intent to travel remains unwavering and their interest in reasonably priced vacations contribute to the continued popularity of the Dominican Republic.

As Mr. Collado pointed out, “The Dominican Republic is a favourite sun destination for Canadians. Canadian customer satisfaction remains very high with nine out of 10 exit polls showing guests would return in the future. Hotels and excellent beaches were most often cited in customer satisfaction surveys.”

Punta Cana remains the preferred destination with current reservations up 20% over pre-pandemic bookings. “We have just confirmed 500 additional flights into Punta Cana this winter. It is one of the most popular sun destinations out of Canada and we want to ensure that agents have enough seats to meet the growing demand of their clients,” added Collado.

Excellent value at an affordable price

While inflation has increased the cost of travel, only 7% of Canadians said they would cancel travel plans. They want to continue travelling but are seeking more economical options. The Dominican Republic is very well positioned to meet the needs of the more price-sensitive traveler, with packages offering excellent value. Indeed, the Dominican Republic offers first-rate service, good prices and an excellent reputation for safety and satisfaction. All of this combined makes the Dominican Republic a very attractive and affordable sun destination as the winter season approaches.

A love story between Canada
and the Dominican Republic

Speaking on behalf of the Dominican Republic, Mr. Collado added that “Canadians have always had a special affinity for our country, and we are delighted to see such a robust response for this winter. We are grateful for your support and look forward to welcoming you to the sun soon!”

Become what you want to be

A new advertising campaign highlighting the wide variety of activities offered in the Dominican Republic has just been unveiled. This one puts the tourists in the center of the message by inviting them to live their passions, that it is the adventure, the dance or even to fly like a paraglider, all that is possible in this fabulous country. Dominican Republic has it all.
