The Dominican Republic’s capital city, Santo Domingo, is simply spectacular and not to be missed. Here, old and the new converge seamlessly thanks to centuries old architecture and a rich history, fine dining, best-in-class shopping, and an electric nightlife.

Spend the Day in Santo Domingo

Begin your day strolling through the ancient colonial zone discovering the abundant sights and sounds of Santo Domingo. This historic neighbourhood consists of a pedestrian-friendly maze of narrow streets brimming with 16th to early 20th century architectural wonders. Streets will lead you towards dozens of colonial buildings turned shops, restaurants, and museums. If walking is not for you, try renting a bicycle, an electric scooter or a trikke to make your journey more exciting.

Visit the Plaza de la Cultura to discover the rich cultural history of the Dominican Republic. This gated complex houses a handful of the city’s key museums, including the Museo del Hombre Dominicano, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Museum of Natural History.

For a nature break, venture over to National Botanical Garden – the largest botanical garden in the Caribbean. Decorated with palm trees, orchids, and exotic plants, the botanical gardens offer 400 acres of serene space to enjoy a rejuvenating afternoon.

Later, dine in style at one of the many hip hotels citywide where renowned chefs create twists on Dominican and international cuisine. Relax with a Dominican Puro (that’s a traditional Dominican cigar) at one of the open terrace-bistros overlooking Plaza de España. Or, mingle on a rooftop lounge lining Gustavo Mejía Ricart Avenue.

Enjoy the vibrant, eclectic nightlife Santo Domingo has to offer. At night, the Colonial City comes alive with musical rhythms all over, casual bars, upscale lounges, and dance spots all along the narrow, romantic streets.
